Sydney has officially been confirmed as the new home of the Australian PGA Championship, marking a significant change for one of the country’s premier golf events.

The tournament will be played at The Lakes Golf Club from November 26–29, relocating from its recent home at Royal Queensland Golf Club. The move comes as Royal Queensland undergoes major upgrades in preparation for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

This transition also signals a rare interstate shift for the event. It will be the first time since 1999 that the Australian PGA Championship has been staged outside of Queensland, with that edition held at Victoria Golf Club in Melbourne.

A Return to a Historic Venue

The Lakes Golf Club is no stranger to hosting top-tier golf. The Sydney layout has welcomed the Australian PGA Championship on three previous occasions, most recently in 1998. Its return to the rota brings both history and prestige back into focus.

PGA of Australia CEO Gavin Kirkman expressed enthusiasm about the move, highlighting Sydney’s reputation as a global sporting hub.

“The city is synonymous with world-class sporting events and we are thrilled that we are able to return to The Lakes Golf Club,” Kirkman said.
“The venue has a rich history in hosting PGA Tour of Australasia events, so we know we are in for a warm welcome in November.”

Global Stage, Local Spotlight

The championship will once again be co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia and the DP World Tour, serving as the opening event of the DP World Tour’s new season.

DP World Tour Chief Tournament and Operations Officer Ben Cowen emphasised the importance of the Australian leg in launching the global schedule.

“Our members thoroughly enjoy opening our season down under, with the BMW Australian PGA Championship in particular a key launchpad for the Race to Dubai,” Cowen said.
“Co-sanctioned events such as this one are an important part of providing pathways for players to compete on the world stage.”

The 2025 edition will follow on from last year’s winner, Spain’s David Puig, and is expected to once again attract a strong international field.

A Big Fortnight for Australian Golf

The Australian PGA Championship will take place just one week before the Australian Open, which is set to be held at Kingston Heath in Melbourne. Adding further excitement, back-to-back Masters champion Rory McIlroy is slated to headline the field.

With two major tournaments scheduled across consecutive weeks in Sydney and Melbourne, Australian golf fans are set for a blockbuster start to the summer season.
