Question:

Hi Lee,

I was after some short game tips, more specifically how to beat the doubt monster? I find there are times where I’m in the groove and then the doubt creeps in and takes a hold of my game.Any tips on how to stay in charge of my short game, I’m thinking pre shot on Pitch, chips and putts. Long complex question sorry.

Answer:

Hi Wayne,

Thank-you for your question. The first thing you need to realize is that you’re not alone. It happens to the best of us you only need to think back to Tiger when he was struggling with his chipping and pitching. Without having the luxury of seeing your technique I would suggest 3 words…Routine. Routine. Routine.

If you have a solid pre and post shot routine, you will stop thinking about the results and stay in the moment. The mind can do funny things if you start worrying about the result and it takes you off task.

  1. Pick a target (small)
  2. Select a club that best suits the shot needed
  3. 2 practice swings (Looking at target)
  4. Set-up and place the club behind the ball
  5. FIRE!

If you stick to this simple process when playing, I’m positive you will be better equipped to place at your best for the full round.
